Description The fire at the Armoury was the trigger for the change of vocation and the project to rebuild this Canadian architectural icon. Owned by the federal government, the building was expanded to optimize the facilities and make them more accessible to the community. While retaining and integrating the original components, others were added, such as the west wing, the foyer and the bridge leading to Battlefields Park across the 1913-1914 Annex, itself renovated to accommodate the Voltigeurs de Québec. The west wing is a sober interpretation of the characteristic features of the Armoury in the choice of materials and volumetric principles, while maintaining a contemporary architecture that stands out from the existing structure. This harmonious cohabitation of contemporary and heritage architecture highlights the Armoury’s layers of history while providing a renewed experience for users and the public.
