Atelier TAG and Architecture49 team, finalist for the Saint Joseph’s Oratory competition
The team composed of Atelier TAG and Architecture49 is finalist in the multidisciplinary competition for the dome of the St. Joseph’s Oratory of Mount Royal. The competition aspires to fulfil the vision of the basilica’s architects, namely by giving access to the space between the dome of the basilica and the outer dome, to the culminating point : the lantern, a unique observatory in Montreal. In addition to this project, the redefinition of the Oratory’s museum and its complete reorganisation.
Recognized as a National Historic Site of Canada in 2003, Saint Joseph’s Oratory is a vast pilgrimage site located on the north side of the Mount Royal mountain. A major tourist attraction in the city, the Oratory receives nearly 2 million visitors annually, making it one of the largest urban sanctuaries in the world.
Atelier TAG and Architecture49 will be supported by the firms SDK (structure), Stantec (mechanical-electrical), GSM Project (museology), CS design (lighting) et LCO (estimation).
The four finalists have until April 27th 2018 to submit their proposal for the second step of the competition.
